At the Africa’s Growth Blueprint Workshop held at KOFISI Square on 16th May 2024 in partnership with the African Management Institute, Africa’s economic growth was the focus as a panel of experts shed light on key insights crucial for driving it and fostering sustainable development across the continent.
One significant takeaway was the shift in perspective regarding the traditional notion that economic growth is solely propelled by the manufacturing sector. Rather, discussions highlighted the immense potential for innovation to open up new economic frontiers. There is a need for Africa to harness its innovative capacity to capitalize on emerging opportunities, including exporting locally-produced goods.
Moreover, panelists stressed the importance of crafting partnerships focused on value creation rather than mere value extraction. Highlighting successful collaborations, the recent partnership between Africa’s two leading shared workspace providers, KOFISI and Workshop17 will provide a wider range of locations and services across the continent. There was an emphasis on the significance of partnering with entities that possess a shared mission and deep understanding of the local context.
Entrepreneurial vision was another key theme, with speakers urging entrepreneurs to think beyond national borders and develop continental-wide strategies. Engaging with governments was encouraged as an avenue for investment, particularly through private-public partnerships. Moreover, multinational corporations were urged to look to local talent with a global mindset, recognizing their nuanced understanding of African markets.
On the organizational front, emphasis was placed on fostering a culture of innovation and customer-centric thinking. Speakers highlighted the importance of creative problem-solving and maintaining a feedback loop to tailor products and services to customer needs. Additionally, strategies for talent retention and employee well-being were discussed, with a focus on investing in training, offering incentives and cultivating a supportive work environment.
The workshop concluded with a call to action for proactive engagement with policymakers and the implementation of policies that promote flexibility and uniformity in business operations, which will ultimately drive sustained economic growth and prosperity across Africa.
