Breaking the bias in the Workplace

International Women's Day KOFISI

This years’ International Women’s Day theme, #breakthebias, focuses on creating a gender equal world where women’s careers can thrive and their achievements are celebrated.

As a company KOFISI is proud that women make up more than 60% of its workforce, bringing a wealth of experience and skills in the hospitality, management and administration sectors to the team. However, we are committed to providing the most inclusive and diverse work environments, which includes looking at ways in which we can further support women in the workplace and to reduce any unconscious bias within our own team and also within our Centres.

  • By implementing policies that encourage a flexible work environment which helps women manage their work, while balancing their family life.
  • Developing a progressive workplace culture where a strong focus on diversity and inclusion is evident.
  • Realizing the value of having more women in leadership and supporting them within a community of likeminded people to help one another succeed.
  • Acknowledging talented women in the work areas and encouraging them by recognizing their impact in the workplaces.
  • And finally, don’t be afraid to engage in conversations that point out the different challenges women face on a day-to-day basis and creating safe places to address these issues.

To honour International Women’s Day, we recorded a podcast at KOFISI 9 with Westlands Member, Sophie Hodder, the Country Director of Marie Stopes Kenya. She discusses (among other things) how to #breakthebias as a woman in leadership and how she balances her career and her role as a mother.
